Goldorak

How many days have I spent watching this anime?

For those who don't know what Goldorak/Grendizer is, it is simply an Japanese anime created in the 70s and was immensely popular in France, back in the 80s.
I grew up being glued to the television set every time it was airing (once a week), not only because of my interest in that particular show, but also because of the lack of other things to watch the rest of the week. Indeed, there was an age younger people might not be too familiar with, where on demand, 24/24h and constant reruns were unheard of. So if you missed it, than usually too bad for you!

But back to Goldorak/Grendizer. So yes, a Japanese anime created by the legendary Go Nagai, another incarnation of his Giant Robot / Mecha style, first made famous by Mazinger and Mazinger Z. Goldorak is no different from that, being that the main character (Actarus) would pilot a, well, giant robot to fight aliens from the evil Vega system.

Also uncommon and maybe because censorship was taken by surprise, the level of violence was pretty elevated for a show meant for kids. Blood, explosion, people dying atrocely... These were themes that attracted viewers, not for the gratuity of the act, but for the symbolism of the fight between good and evil.

The soundtrack was particularly brilliant as well, setting the mood perfectly for each scene.

I need to watch the show again before giving you another more up to date opinion.
